Description
This special piece is made of Tussar silk and hand embroidered with upcycled textile strips representing the Sadu patterns, the local and traditional woven textile created by Bedouin women.
Mhefhef, founded by Qatari fashion designer Mashael Al-Naimi, embraces the Slow Fashion approach, celebrating the beauty and sustainability of handmade garments. Each piece is meticulously crafted from natural textiles such as silk, linen, and cotton, adorned with hand-painted motifs using natural dyes or permanent henna, and embellished with handmade embroideries.
The silk, including Eri Peace Silk, known for its non-violent silk production process, mulberry silk, tussar silk, and upcycled silk, ensures that every garment is unique, lightweight, and breathable.
By choosing Mhefhef, you support local communities in India, Qatar, Georgia, refugee groups, and women’s collectives, making each piece more than just clothing.
We find those beautiful abayas so enjoyable to wear, they are very light and breathable, all clothing should be made this way, by hand, full of goodness for our skin and for the planet!
Designer’s Bio:
Mashael Al Naimi, the creator of Mhefhef, collaborates with artisans to transform natural handwoven fabrics into unique canvases for textile art, incorporating techniques such as hand-blocking, hand-painting, upcycling, and using natural dyes. Mhefhef introduced upcycled abayas, handmade entirely from fabric waste that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. Embracing the concept of “dressing healthy,” Mashael developed an innovative technique of permanent henna painting on fabric, which was showcased at CR Runway, one of the biggest fashion events. In 2023, Mashael shared her journey in sustainable fashion at TED in Arabic.
